Definition Appellation

Marcenniacus is mentioned in the chronicles of Bèze as early as 630. It may have been a Gallo-Roman man, Marcenius, or the Celtic name for a marshland. As early as the ^31st century, Marcennaium is found in Montaingne, indicating the geographical position of the village at the foot of the Côte hills.
